If you’re an avid TikTok or Instagram scroller, you’ve probably heard of the viral Cider jumpsuit by now. The Hong Kong-based brand currently has over five million followers and you can find video after video of women praising the versatility, fabric and size-inclusive design. Some reviewers are also saying they plan on buying it in every color (and there are many).
Given all that, I decided to take the leap and purchase the $26 jumpsuit — and I can now say I totally understand why everyone is so obsessed with it, even though there are a few drawbacks.
As a short girl, I’ve always struggled with jumpsuits, especially wide-leg versions. They never quite hit the mark right and are either too tight in all the wrong places or completely swallow me up. I thought I’d never be able to find one for my petite frame — until I spotted the Cider jumpsuit on Instagram.
Amazingly, it doesn’t drown me, even though the legs are extra baggy. After trying out the jumpsuit for a month, I’d recommend shorter girls wear it with comfortable heels or platforms unless you plan on getting it hemmed. For taller women, it would look great with flats, sneakers or sandals.
It’s available in plus sizes and over a dozen colors. The fabric is super soft and stretchy, without the “cheap” look I find that polyester clothes tend to have. I’ve found it’s pretty stain-resistant, so that’s a plus too. I also liked that the corseted top is designed to create a cinched waistline, making it an ideal choice even if you don’t have an hourglass figure. And while the inseam was a bit too long, it required only a minor hemming to prevent it from dragging.
That being said, there were some drawbacks, too. Despite some videos online claiming the jumpsuit runs large, I found the top to be extremely tight when I ordered a size down.
But overall, I thought the pros of this jumpsuit far outweighed its cons. It’s as comfortable as pajamas and versatile enough to be worn straight from the office to a night out with friends. While I’ve only worn it to work with platform sandals and a denim jacket for a more casual look, I’m already planning on dressing it up with heels for an upcoming wedding.
Another bonus? Cleaning it is absolutely a breeze. It’s machine washable, so I simply wash it in cold water on a gentle cycle and allow it to air dry. In short, this piece will continue to be a staple in my wardrobe for years to come.
